A Guide To Rimming

Here are some facts: according to the National Health Statistics study, 89% of women and 90% of men have had oral sex, and 36% of women and 44% of men have had anal sex. That means one in three women and almost half of the population of men have already began exploring the joys of anal play.

As society becomes increasingly more comfortable with the idea of anal sex, we are becoming more comfortable with trying new things. One being rimming; a technique that is often misunderstood and misrepresented. As such, many automatically dislike it before they have even given it a go. If you are already a fan of anal play, rimming is simply a variation worth trying. For those who are new to anal, it’s a gentle and intimate way of experimenting for the first time. Interested in exploring analingus further? Here is a practical guide outlining everything you need to know in order to give and receive the perfect rim job.

Safety and Hygiene

This may sound obvious, but many often overlook the importance of being safe and clean. Firstly, when it comes to anal sex the risks of infections and STI’s are higher. For your safety and the safety of your partner, I suggest that you both get tested regularly to ensure that neither of you accidentally pass anything on.

Secondly, it is important to shower and clean out your anus beforehand. If you want a thorough clean you can use an enema – otherwise simply showering should do the job. If you or your partner are still worried about the spread of bacteria and infection, using a barrier could be the solution. I recommend a dental dam, but you can improvise by using an un-lubricated condom, plastic wrap or latex glove. If you and your partner decide not to use oral protection, make sure that you at least wash your mouth out with mouthwash afterwards to sanitise the area.

Finally, do not double dip. Ever. You could potentially transfer dangerous bacteria that can cause a number of delightful infections such as vaginitis and cystitis. If you decide to move from the anus to the vagina, make sure you swish some mouthwash first.

Positions and Techniques

When it comes to rimming, it is all about finding a technique that works for both giver and receiver. So take your time testing out a few different positions and methods, and don’t give up if the first few don’t do it for you. Also, don’t be afraid to get creative – who knows what you might discover!

For beginners, make sure you are both as comfortable as possible. If the receiver is generally quite strong, I recommend getting them to get on all fours. If they find this position tiring, they can lie on their chest instead. What’s important is that they keep their ass up in the air. This ensures that you have easy access and plenty of room to experiment with…a win-win situation for all!

There’s no need to rush straight into using tongue. Take your time kissing and sucking the thighs, lower back and legs first – slowly making your way to the anus. Blowing warm air onto the anus and the skin around it also works well, and a combination of both will feel incredible. When you’re both ready, start off gently by using up and down motions – keeping the tongue outside of the body to begin with.

As I said before, there is no right and wrong way to rimming – if you are both enjoying what you’re already doing, keep going with it. If you’re ready to move to the next step, try ‘pokin-in’. As the name suggests, it involves penetrating your partner’s anus with your tongue. To achieve this, the tongue needs to be kept flat but pointed and there needs to be plenty of lube/saliva. I always recommend keeping lube (any lube is fine) nearby for quick access, so you can easily top up when it’s needed.

Other Techniques

If you’re looking to mix it up a little, why not try using teeth. This sounds uncomfortable, but believe me when I say it can feel amazing! Use common sense; little nibbles and gentle love bites are fun and naughty, chomping is painful and a guaranteed way to kill the mood. Using fingers and hands will allow you to rest your tongue without stopping the fun. Fingers can gently probe the rectum and stimulate the area around the anus. If you are good at multi-tasking, you can also try reaching around from behind and stroking/fondling the front genitals.

As I’ve already mentioned, it’s all about finding a technique that you both enjoy. Experimenting and trying new and kinky things is part of the fun, so don’t hold back!
